GRAND ISLAND – A Grand Island man who was charged with attempted second-degree murder for stabbing a 22-year-old woman multiple times on Feb. 11 has entered a plea agreement.
Daniel Ramirez-Castaneda, 24, of Grand Island entered the plea agreement on July 19 in Hall County District Court before Judge Patrick Lee.
Ramirez-Castaneda pleaded no contest to felony second-degree assault of Liliana Grier and felony attempted possession of a deadly weapon in the commission of a felony.
In exchange, these charges were dismissed: felony attempted second-degree murder, felony using a deadly weapon to commit a felony, felony first-degree false imprisonment, and misdemeanor child abuse.
Judge Lee will sentence Ramirez-Castaneda at 10 a.m. Oct. 1.
When police arrived at the scene on Feb. 11, they found a female outside the residence at 1019 Hall St. with multiple stab wounds to her hands and head, said Grand Island Police Capt. Dean Elliott. She said that her boyfriend, Ramirez-Castaneda, attacked her with a knife and was still inside the home along with their 6-year-old and 9-month-old children who witnessed the altercation.
Grier was treated and released from a Grand Island hospital.
Deputy Hall County Attorney Matthew Boyle is prosecuting the case. Public Defender Jerry Piccolo is representing Ramirez-Castaneda.
