Husker Football Tight End Gilbert Arrested for Burglary

Aug 29, 2023 | 8:35 AM

LINCOLN – Nebraska Football tight end Arik Gilbert was arrested early Tuesday morning for burglary from a Lincoln liquor and vape shop with the value of items stolen near $1,700.

Gilbert – the transfer from Georgia who began his career as an All-SEC Freshman at LSU – had yet to receive a transfer waiver for his second move in as many years from the NCAA. On Friday, head coach Matt Rhule stated his frustration during his press conference with the process.

Per the Lincoln Police Department release, the suspect stole a variety of vape products, Delta 8, cigars, and lighters totaling $1,672.07. The incident occurred at around 2 AM at SJ’s Liquor and Vape Shop near 27th and O Street. Damage to the business was also valued at around $650.

When officers arrived, a glass door had been shattered with cement chunks from the parking lot. The suspect was then seen leaving toward the exit with a bag.
