I don’t watch movies too often anymore. I feel so much we see today is so formulaic, been done to death and seen to death. I just don’t have the patience. Last night I took a chance on a movie I knew nothing about. It’s called Delivery Man with Vince Vaughn. As I clicked on it I was waiting for the popular aerial view of a city, classical music playing with the opening credits flashing over nice landscapes and all the other all-to-familiar cinema stylings yet, much to my surprise this movie got my attention for being not so typical. It was just different. It felt different and the story was not one I ever heard before. I was hooked.
Here’s the storyline which is revealed almost immediately: Vince Vaughn’s character is a deliveryman for his family’s butcher shop when one day he comes home from work to find a lawyer representing a sperm bank (where he gave 693 donations and earned a sum of $24,255 during his student years).
His lawyer reveals that the clinic gave his samples to women at the clinic and that he has fathered 533 children. Of those, 142 have joined a class action lawsuit to force the fertility clinic to reveal the identity of the donor (Vince Vaughn’s character). At the clinic, to remain anonymous, he used the name “Starbuck,” as an alias.
The storyline from there is fun, new, a little bit moving and entertaining.
The movie also stars Cobie Smulders from How I Met Your Mother and Chris Pratt. I was pleasantly surprised. I haven’t seen a good movie in a long time. I hope you like it. You’re welcome for the tip.
