In their first Big Ten Conference Tournament game in several years, Nebraska did not disappoint.
NU, the No. 4 seed, topped 5-seed Rutgers 9-7 Wednesday afternoon. The Huskers will take on 1-seed Maryland Thursday.
A three-run blast from Charlie Fischer put Nebraska up 3-0 in the first inning. The Scarlet Knights struck back with three runs in the fifth and took the lead with three more in the top of the seventh.
But a six-spot from Nebraska, including a Gabe Swansen homer, in the bottom of the seventh inning was enough to take the victory.
Nebraska and Maryland’s second round game Thursday is slotted for a 6 p.m. CDT first pitch.
