At the beginning of April on an impulse I purchased cucumber seeds and sunflower seeds for my yard. (This spring I was overly motivated for warm weather and outdoor existence). I planted The cucumbers in a hanging basket by the back door and the sunflowers were planted around the tree in the mint patch.

I watered, I watered and I watered some more and like magic the sunflowers sprouted up approximately 4 feet in a very short amount of time and recently began blooming.

Regarding the cucumber, an entire package of seeds yielded only 2 small ones and one of them was stolen by Nutsie the Squirrel! You can’t go around stealin’ another man’s pickle!

That’s my extent of gardening for the year. I had a great spring/summer and can’t believe I’m about to admit this but I am ready for fall. I just hope it’s a long and comfortable one with  some good news in the Husker Department.

Let me share with you my unfortunate prediction I didn’t chose to have in my head: After last year’s incredibly uneventful winter and this summer’s lack of rain I believe Central Nebraska is going to get slammed with numerous snow and ice storms. Keep in mind, just sayin’ it doesn’t make it happen so don’t write me angry letters. Maybe my prediction is wrong. We’ll see.
