RUNZA SENIORS COMPLETE COACH K LINCOLN TOURNAMENT:

The Runza Seniors continue to impress away from Memorial Field, going 3-1 over the weekend at the Coach K Tournament in Lincoln.

On Friday, Runza dominated Modern Real Estate 14-4 followed by a walk-off 5-4 win over Omaha Westside. Saturday, the lone loss of the weekend came against Lincoln East’s Carpet Land Seniors falling 3-2. Kearney wrapped up the weekend with a win over Peitzmeier Demolition 9-3.

The weekend improved Kearney to 6-11 on the season as they prepare for a Tuesday night contest at Hastings then a doubleheader Saturday afternoon against Grand Island Home Federal and GI U-Save.

HUSKER T&F WRAPS UP NCAA NATIONALS:

Nebraska freshman high jumper Jenna Rogers tied for sixth at the NCAA Outdoor Championships at Hayward Field on Saturday to conclude the meet.

Rogers cleared 6-0 (1.83m) to finish in a tie for sixth and earn first-team All-America honors for the second time this year. The Big Ten indoor and outdoor champion was also an indoor first-team All-American after finishing seventh.

With Rogers’ finish – combined with Maddie Harris’ silver medal in the javelin and Axelina Johansson’s bronze medal in the shot put – the Husker women scored 16 team points to finish in 14th place in the team standings. It marks the best finish for the Husker women since 2006.

The East ran the ball 53 of their 55 offensive plays as Hi-Line’s Cooper Ray was named the Offensive MVP with 78 yards rushing and a pair of touchdowns leading the East to a 31-24 victory Saturday night in Scottsbluff at the West Nebraska All-Star game.

East QB Caleb Tonkinson of North Platte ran 176 yards, Cozad’s Jacob Weatherly had 75, and Ansley-Litchfield’s Cooper Slingsby ran for another 32.

Cozad’s Nolan Wetovick threw a touchdown pass to North Platte’s Kade Mohr then led a scoring drive, finishing with a 13 yard touchdown run with under six minutes to play to seal the victory.
