107.7 The Island - Real Music Variety

I found something new to watch (yay). Although it did hook me, it wasn’t immediate. I almost stopped watching pretty early in. Give this show a chance to reveal its true colors. It is a sitcom but it’s so much more (which you will discover 3 minutes in).

It cleverly blends genres which I don’t think we’ve seen before except for shows containing dream sequences or flashbacks.

The show is called ‘Kevin Can F**k Himself’ – it’s a dark comedy tv series set in Massachusetts. Enjoy (or not) the Boston accent.

The show explores the life of a woman struggling to redefine her life amid her unhappy marriage to an all too typical man-child of a husband.

Here’s the super-unique aspect of this: The show presents contrasting perspectives of her experience both as a stereotypical wife in a sitcom (which we’ve seen a million times) yet when main character is with her husband Kevin, you’re watching  numerous angles, canned laughter and everything you’d expect from a half hour comedy series – conversely when Allison is getting introspective and/or struggling with life difficulties, the show is filmed with one camera and moody lighting just like a movie or a typical television drama. I find it surprisingly and refreshingly compelling. I love the fusion of the cookie cutter sitcom vs. the cookie cutter drama all at the same time and in the same show.

I don’t feel as though I’m describing this clearly so just watch it and let me know what you think. I catch it on AMC which is available on my ROKU thingy.
