I don’t know how many of you noticed that I have disappeared from Facebook for the past several glorious weeks. It’s not just because I am completely fed up with the over-confidence and in many cases down-right hatred exhibited by many users. It’s definitely all of the aforementioned but it’s more. It’s my disdain for the device (cellphone/tablet).

Between banking and paying bills, maintaining a page as administrator, texting, calling, checking voicemail, etc. I realized I was spending an embarrassingly astronomical amount of my day on this little fragile device with tiny little annoying buttons and it’s not what I want for my life. I want to live as I did before cell phones, internet and Facebook dominated our lives. I don’t want it for my life so I changed it.

I leave my phone home more often now. What a freeing feeling it is to not be tethered unnecessarily to a device that we hadn’t needed for three-quarters of our lives.

I will return to Facebook at some point – until then I’ll be living in the here-and-now and not in my device or internet playground.

The absolute best part of this decision is: I haven’t disappeared one bit (except for FB). I can still be reached by email or telephone. If it’s important you can text or do something we used to do eons ago: LEAVE A MESSAGE!
