FLORIDA NATIVE DECOMMITS FROM HUSKERS
The Huskers’ 2022 class just got smaller.
Florida defensive lineman Hayden Schwartz announced he was reopening his recruitment. Schwartz made his decision public on Twitter.
Nebraska gained Schwartz’s commitment back in July about a month after he took an official visit to the school. Schwartz also took an official visit to Michigan on June 4. The defender from Jacksonville, Florida, was one of Nebraska’s preferred targets on the defensive line this recruiting cycle. Schwartz picked Nebraska over 27 offers.
KEARNEY / GRAND ISLAND OPEN HAC TOURNAMENT WITH THRILLER
After going up 2 sets to none over the Islanders on the road, Kearney High was unable to stop the rally of Grand Island falling in 5 sets in the opening round of the HAC Tournament Monday evening.
The Islanders fell early 2-0 and trailed 23-19 in the third set but rattled off comebacks in all three sets to overcome the Bearcats.
Kearney will take on Lincoln Northeast Wednesday at 5 PM in the bottom bracket while Grand Island takes on the fifth seeded Lincoln Pius X in Fremont today.
HUSKER VOLLEYBALL PREPARES FOR HAWKEYES
The No. 9 Nebraska volleyball team visits Iowa this Wednesday, Oct. 20 with first serve set for 7 p.m. at Xtream Arena in Coralville, Iowa.
Nebraska has sole possession of first place in the Big Ten standings and is the only remaining unbeaten team at 8-0 in conference play. The Huskers are ahead of second-place Wisconsin (7-1).
Iowa looks to snap a 10-mach losing skid and is 2-16 (0-8 Big Ten). Nebraska leads the all-time series with Iowa 34-0, including 21-0 in the John Cook era.
Nebraska plays its sixth match against a ranked opponent this Saturday, Oct. 23, welcoming No. 7 Purdue to the Devaney Center at 8 p.m. The match will be televised on Big Ten Network.
KUBIK NAMED BIG TEN PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Madi Kubik has earned her second straight Big Ten Player of the Week award, the conference office announced Monday. The honor is the third of her career.
NU has counted seven Big Ten weekly award winners this season.
NEBRASKA/PURDUE KICKOFF TIME SET
The Big Ten Conference and ESPN announced Monday afternoon that Nebraska’s Oct. 30 game with No. 25 Purdue at Memorial Stadium will kick off at 2:30 p.m., with television coverage on ESPN2.
The Nebraska-Purdue matchup is the first of three remaining Nebraska home games, including
games against Ohio State (Nov. 6, TBD) and Iowa (Nov. 26, 12:30 p.m., BTN).
UNK FOOTBALL REMAINS AT No. 21
UNK Football remained at No. 21 in the latest Division II Coaches Poll released on Monday.
The Lopers, now 6-1 on the season, are atop the MIAA after Northwest Missouri State fell to Washburn on Saturday.
UNK faces Lincoln on Saturday at home at 2 PM, then will take on Northwest Missouri State on the road.

Quarterback for the Huskers Adrian Martinez appeared in some fans’ eyes to have crossed the goaline on his third and goal run in the second half.

The Huskers players were excused from practice for the beginning of the week with a rehearsal scheduled for Wednesday.

Nebraska has now lost five games on the season by one score or less, but quarterback Adrian Martinez says his team isn’t feeling discouraged yet…
Martinez added that the players did not yet know the schedule for the bye week upcoming for the Huskers.
FROST – LITTLE MISTAKES COST US GAME
Nebraska fell flat on Saturday’s matchup with Minnesota, falling in a 21-9 hole early before eventually losing to the Gophers 30-23.
Head Coach Scott Frost mentioned after the game that he felt the team missed on little details…
Frost added that he felt players came out flat for the 11 AM kickoff resulting in the slow start. The Huskers have their first bye week of the season this week.

A puzzling moment from the Nebraska-Minnesota game was Nebraska not going under center for a 4th down and goal from the Minnesota one yard line, instead handing the ball off from shotgun resulting in a turnover on downs.

UNK VOLLEYBALL PREPS FOR EMPORIA STATE
After back-to-back wins for the No. 15 UNK Volleyball team, UNK hits the road again to take on Emporia State on Tuesday.
The Hornets are currently on a two game losing skid and sitting at 4-14 on the year.
First serve is set for 6 PM from Emporia.
NEBRASKA SOFTBALL SWEEPS RAMS IN DOUBLEHEADER
The Nebraska softball team played a double header Sunday afternoon against Colorado State, winning the first game 5-3 and the second game 1-0.
NU was able to hold the Rams to only nine hits on the day and no runs during the second game.
The Huskers are back in action Friday, Feb. 11 for the UNI Dome Tournament in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
NEBRASKA BOWLING RANKED No. 1
Defending national champion Nebraska will open the season atop the national poll, as the National Ten Pin Coaches Association released its preseason poll Friday morning.
UNK WRESTLING PREPARES FOR SEASON
The Nebraska-Kearney wrestling team starts the 2021-22 season where it ended the 2020-21 season, ranked second in NCAA Division II.
The three-time defending national champion St. Cloud State came in first (81) and the Lopers second (80).
UNK’s veteran lineup has 10 returning starters with super seniors, and the annual Blue/Gold intrasquad dual starts the year on Nov. 6 (Saturday) with the first outside competition being a dual at Nebraska on Nov. 11 (Thursday).
UNK SOCCER FALLS TO JENNIES ON ROAD
The 17th-ranked Central Missouri Jennies used three second half goals to defeat Nebraska-Kearney, 4-1, Sunday afternoon in Warrensburg.
UNK remains on the road next weekend to battle Rogers State and Northeastern State.
